ACM China SIGCSE Chapter Held a workshop on research and outlook for computer education project

The 50th ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE 2019) was held on February 27th - March 2nd in Minneapolis, MN, USA. It attracted a record of 1,809 people around the world to register the conference. More than 200 events were simultaneously scheduled in this year symposium, satisfying various requirements of participants with different backgrounds. A series of activities were conducted to celebrate the 50th anniversary, including a reflection of the development in CS education during the past five decades, a selection of top ten computer science education research papers in the SIGCSE history, and a large educational exhibition organized by as many as 51 companies and institutions.

One of the main targets of SIGCSE China Chapter is to help Chinese Computer Science educators to publish their research work on top CS education conferences. Through our members constant efforts in recent years, we have one full paper from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences accepted at this year SIGCSE conference. Moreover, as an international PC member of SIGCSE 2019, Prof. Ming Zhang co-organized a BoF (Birds of a Feather) event "Computing Competencies and the CC2020 Project" and a panel session "Computing Curricula 2020: Introduction and Community Engagement" respectively.

Four China ACM SIGCSE members attended this year conference: Ming Zhang from Peking University, Ke Zhang and Yisong Chang from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Xiaochun Yang from Shanghai AchieveFun Info. Co. The Chinese delegation presented the full paper "Computer Organization and Design Course with FPGA Cloud". In the BoF and panel session, they introduced the current situation of computing education in China to the global attendees. They also invited interested participants to attend the 1st ACM Global Computing Education Conference (CompEd) that would be held on May 17 -19, 2019 in Chengdu, China to fully experience the development of CS education in China. Last but not the least, invited by Prof. Mingrui Zhang from CS Department at Winona State University (WSU), Prof Ming Zhang also visited WSU, gave a talk and discussed with some faculty and students to explore collaboration opportunities in computer education and other related topics.
