ACM China SIGCSE Chapter Held the Enlarged Council Meeting and the SIGCSE China Symposium
ACM Turing Award 50 years China Conference (TURC 2017) was held on May 13, 2017, in Shanghai, China. ACM China SIGCSE Chapter hosted the SIGCSE China symposium in this conference. An enlarged council meeting of ACM China SIGCSE Chapter, including 32 members, was taken during the conference. This meeting was chaired by Professor Ming Zhang, the Chair of ACM China SIGCSE Chapter and the professor of Peking University. At the meeting, the council members reported the progresses in the last year and discussed the follow-up arrangements. Up to now, the number of ACM China SIGCSE Chapter members has reached 286. There are three keynote speeches in the SIGCSE symposium. Professor Amber Settle, the ACM SIGCSE Chair, gave a speech entitled “Refocusing Academic Integrity to Enhance Learning”. Professor Mark Guzdial, the ACM Fellow, and professor Dan Garcia, ACM Distinguished Educator, brought speeches “Improving Success in Computer Science Education Lessons from Learning Sciences” and “Bringing ‘Trustworthy Network Big Data’Ideas to High School Students” respectively. The symposium also organized two panels with the topics of “Computer education research” and “Women in the academic field”. This symposium accepted 16 papers and the authors conducted report exchanges during the meeting. All papers were entered the ACM Digital Library. Among them, the papers from two teams of Peking University won the Best Paper Award and the Best Student Paper Award respectively. In addition, there’re 8 student volunteers carrying a live of the meeting, so that members of the ACM China SIGCSE Chapter from all over the country can obtain the content of the symposium in real time and participate in the discussion. Through these wonderful teaching result reports, well-known computer educators shared the experience for computer major education, including training programs, curriculum system, curriculum and supporting experimental system design, implementation and evaluation, while promoted the full exchange of domestic and foreign computer education. |
