ACM China SIGCSE Chapter Held a workshop on research and outlook for computer education project

The 49th ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE 2018) was held on February 21-24 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD, USA. The theme for SIGCSE 2018 was "CS for All", expanding CS community and leadership to include everyone, across different groups, educational levels (K-12 to college and beyond), places, and institution types. It attracted 1,753 people from around the world to register the conference.

One of the main efforts of SIGCSE China Chapter is to help Chinese Computer Science educators to publish their research work on top CS education and we have five posters from China accepted by SIGCSE conference this year. As an international PC member of SIGCSE 2018, Prof. Ming Zhang co-organized a BOF (Birds of a Feather) event “Global Awareness for Computing Educators and Scholars” and a special session "IT2017 Report: Implementing A Competency-Based Information Technology Program". There are six China ACM SIGCSE attendees who are from Peking University (Ming Zhang), University of Science and Technology of China (Yu Zhang), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Ke Zhang), China Machine Press (Lifang Wen and Lei Yao) and Shanghai AchieveFun Info. Co. (Xiaochun Yang) respectively. The Chinese delegation presented their posters in the poster sessions. The Chinese delegation also attended the BOF and special session to introduce the situation of Computing education and IT program in China and to discuss with the global attendees. Invited by Prof. Xin Jin and Prof. Peng Huang, two Peking University Alumni, the delegation also visited Department of Computer Science at John Hopkins University (JHU), and had an informal discussion with some faculty and students to explore the computer education and other related topics.
